Intellution and SAP AG announced June 20 that they’ll co-develop and market an OLE for Process Control (OPC) interface that enables the sharing of plant-floor data within SAP’s mySAP.com. The SAP OPC Data Access (SAP ODA) connector will be able to pass data between mySAP.com and any OPC-compliant server without the need for custom programming or additional application software, resulting in faster development and deployment of multi-vendor, plant-floor e-business solutions. “OPC is the ideal answer to manufacturers’ need for integrating disparate applications throughout their plants in an easy, cost-effective manner,” says Al Chisholm, Intellution’s chief technical officer and the OPC Foundation’s technical chairman. “Instead of being forced to invest in a multitude of custom application interfaces, users can simply ‘snap’ together mySAP.com solutions with standard, OPC-compliant components.” The SAP ODA connector is scheduled for release in 4Q00.
