Foxboro, MA -Invensys Foxboro introduced Jan. 27 its new Foxboro A2(ArchestrA) automation system. Foxboro’s A2automation system integrates Invensys technology, expertise and services targeted to fit applications needing DCS functions, though unable to justify DCS-type prices.

Based on Invensys’ Eurotherm technology, Foxboro A2’s I/O system provides high-density packaging of a broad range of analog and digital I/O types. DIN rail, remote-mounted I/O systems communicate to system controllers via Profibus, Modbus or DeviceNet digital communications.

A variety of controller options are available and controllers can be mixed and matched as needed to meet specific requirements of control and price. Redundant processors with automatic switchover, redundant power supplies, and redundant network connections can be specified on a controller-by-controller basis. Control strategies are configured graphically using IEC-61131 tools including function block, sequential function charts, structured text, and PID and advanced regulatory control. A library of pre-constructed function blocks is also available to speed application development.

Foxboro A2automation system incorporates the latest version of Invensys Wonderware’s (Lake Forest, CA) InTouch human machine interface (HMI) software to provide a single integrated view of all plant control and information resources utilizing intuitive, easy-to-engineer, dynamic graphical displays. Operator displays and supervisory applications are configured via Wonderware’s Microsoft-based engineering tools, which are fully integrated into the systems single-tag database making the management and re-use of pre-developed, pre-tested control strategies easier.

Third-party supervisory applications can be seamlessly integrated via Wonderware’s Industrial Application Server. Integration with third-party devices and systems is achieved using an OPC Server.
