Inverter efficiencies reduce emissions, waste

With more than 10,000 high-voltage inverters running on working sites globally, the annual electric savings could reach approximately 14,467,000,000 kWh, enough to supply the world’s lighting needs for 10 hours, according to a Control Engineering China article.

With more than 10,000 high-voltage inverters running on working sites globally, the annual electric savings could reach approximately 14,467,000,000 kWh, enough to light the world for 10 hours.

The efficiency also could save emissions of approximately 19,096,700 tons of waste gases to the atmosphere, equivalent to planting 3,000 hectares (7,413.2 acres) of carbon offset plantings; emissions of 1,336,600 tons of coal ash could be reduced as well.

Leader & Harvest, a Schneider Electric subsidiary, held a ceremony to recognize sales of more than 10,000 high-voltage inverters in Beijing on Nov. 25, 2014. Yanda Zhang, vice president and director of inverter system business of Schneider Electric China, said no other supplier has sold 10,000 high-voltage inverters.

When talking about the future, Yanda Zhang is aware of the challenges ahead. "We might have done well. But now, the external environment is also changing. We have to face the challenge as how to develop under new economic norms." Zhang outlined three market strategies.

1. Expand new areas, industries, and applications.

2. Focus on services to help the existing installed base. "As for projects already put into operation, we will provide a complete warranty extension, training, and recycling mechanism to ensure users can put the equipment into operation as scheduled."

3. Focus on innovations. "In the past, we were investment driven. Now, with the increasing number of users, excess capacity has emerged." Focusing on innovations will augment product and service offerings with overall solutions, drawing upon international experience and domestic research and development (R&D) strength to realize innovation in each aspect.

"We have the sense of responsibility to lead the high-voltage inverter industry to conquer the difficulties," Zhang said.
