ISA 2002: GE Fanuc updates software, hardware

Chicago, IL – GE Fanuc Automation released Cimplicity HMI Plant Edition Version 6.0. This version features Cimplicity SQL 2000 and VCR-like screen playback capabilities as well as view, alarm, and paging enhancements to help improve database archiving and reporting, speed process analysis, and decrease plant response time to manufacturing crises.

”Cimplicity HMI Plant Edition continues to be a cornerstone for innovative automation solutions,” said Kevin Roach, vp of the global solutions business at GE Fanuc. ”This version leverages the latest Microsoft technologies and provides an infrastructure for data collection, visualization of aggregated data, and manufacturing intelligence to empower a manufacturer’s workforce and reduce downtime and scrap while driving productivity.”

Visual Cimplicity Replay (VCR) allows users to play back historical logged data through graphic screens via a virtual remote. New alarming technology features a historical viewer, class enhancements, sound extension, and dynamic value updates in the alarm display. It also has expanded view capabilities for point description visibility and thumbnail support. Other new features include: support for Windows XP, electronic documentation in HTML format, and OPC Client Communication enhancements.

The company has also announced Computer Dynamics Survivor-WildCat, a 15-in. sunlight-readable, corrosion-resistant computer designed for use in harsh industrial environments. The computer sports a NEMA 4, environmentally sealed, aluminum-fabricated enclosure. The standard unit has Class I/ Division 2, Group ABCD, Temp Code T4A, Zone 1, Zone 2, CE, UL, ATEX 3 and CSA approvals and operates at -40

It features a 1 GHz Intel Pentium III with up to 512M SDRAM, a 40 gigabyte hard drive, Compact Flash, ATA, Disk on Chip, two Type 2 PCMCIA expansion slots, external PS2 keyboard/mouse ports, 2 RS232 serial ports, PC104 expansion and a 100 dB alarm horn. The computer also offers onboard 10/100BaseT (fiber optic, wireless, RJ45 or coax with lightning/surge arrestor) and is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000, Embedded NT, Win 9x, and Linux.
