ISA Expo 2004: Christensen displays flat-panel for retrofits

Houston, TX— To replace CRTs, extends system life, and lowers cost, Christensen Display Products exhibited its 20-in. flat-panel retrofit package for Honeywell’s TDC3000 console at last week’s ISA Expo 2004 . This specialized LCD system is engineered for compatibility with the older process control video output, and mechanically mounts into the console furniture. Front bezel and touchscreen are left undisturbed. Replacement takes minutes, not hours, and doesn’t require specialized tools.

“Many process control users have asked for our superior LCD technology in older DCS applications,” says Christensen’s Chris Arrowsmith. “While we don’t consider them maliciously proprietary, older style video signals present some technical challenges to standard LCD displays. We’ve responded with a superior performing display system that exactly matches this older video output, and is a quick, mechanical, drop-in replacement.”

The company reports there are tens of thousands of large CRT-based displays running process control systems. With the demise of the CRT and a lack of spare parts, support is growing more difficult each day, and the need for a modern, compatible LCD retrofit package is acute.

Christensen adds that its new assembly packages are available in several configurations. They’re also available from many full-line industrial automation distributors or from the manufacturer.
