ISA releases job analysis study for automation professional certification

ISA, the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society , has published a Job Analysis Study for its Certified Automation Profession (CAP) program. The publication, says ISA, represents a significant milestone for the new certification program, and confirms the steps taken to ensure that the certification exam is “content-valid.” The first offering of the CAP exam is scheduled for Oct. 7 during ISA Expo 2004 .

“The job analysis study is a delineation of the tasks that are involved in performing a job,” says Jim Henderson, VP, Castle Worldwide, the psychometric firm hired to perform the study. “Generally, the tasks can be grouped together in very general areas of responsibility that are called domains.” There are knowledge and skill lists associated with each job task, Henderson explains, noting that to perform a job competently, an automation professional is expected to know and be able to do the tasks outlined in the job analysis study.

The job analysis study is the blueprint for the CAP exam and guarantees that exam takers will be tested on the basic knowledge and competencies that automation professionals need to perform their jobs effectively. Additional exams are scheduled for Oct. 9 and Dec. 11.
