Two-wire and fieldbus connectivity gives more options for installation selection.

New transmitters add two-wire or fieldbus connectivity to Coriolis flowmeters.

has added two advances to its Micro Motion Coriolis flowmeters . A new transmitter offers two-wire loop-powering options to extend installation options, along with an alternative transmitter offering DeviceNet and Profibus DP output in addition to standard 4-20 mA / HART output. The first announcement is the first two-wire Micro Motion Coriolis meter, allowing installation of this technology in environments that require loop-powered flow devices. Emerson

Micro Motion says the new two-wire meter delivers measurement accuracy, repeatability, and operational savings on a level not previously possible for flow loops with older flow measurement technologies. The new meter delivers +0.10% liquid flow and +0.0005 g/cm3 liquid density accuracy in continuous process and mass balance applications. It has no moving parts and requires no maintenance.

The two-wire Micro Motion 2200S transmitter can be used with a range of Elite Coriolis sensor sizes and materials of construction. Suitable for integral or extended mount, the innovative loop powered design makes for seamless integration into existing control systems and is ideal for long wiring runs and applications in hazardous areas.

The second announcement is new digital fieldbus connectivity for Elite Coriolis flowmeters. The new 2400S transmitters are now available with DeviceNet and Profibus DP communications in addition to the traditional 4-20 mA, frequency, and HART. These compact devices mount integrally onto the sensor.

Micro Motion says these fieldbus platforms are widely used across many industries and processes controlled by PLCs. Direct digital communications with the PLCs means that two wires can now carry secondary and tertiary process variables, instrument and process diagnostic information, and the primary measurement. This brings the full capabilities of Micro Motion Coriolis flow and density devices into the user’s host system by providing flow, density, and temperature measurements through a single device, eliminating the need for multiple sensors with associated wiring/configuration costs. In addition, digital communications unlock instrument diagnostic information, such as drive gain, meter verification and other alarms.

Model 2400S transmitters can now be specified with a 316L stainless steel housing as an alternative to the standard polyurethane-painted aluminum housing. Rated to IP66 and IP67, the corrosion resistant stainless steel housing is suited for applications where instruments are subjected to regular caustic wash-downs.
