Machine vision: GigE cameras enable better light control

To increase the flexibility of machine vision systems and allow control over custom-designed LED illumination, Baumer has introduced advanced GigE cameras outfitted with four independent I/O ports located adjacent to the trigger and flash connection. The Baumer TXG Multi-I/O cameras feature I/O ports with customizable pulse width modulated (PWM) signals. These ports allow a direct connection between the camera and the illumination module, eliminating PC-control over lighting.

The camera’s internal PWM controller can be programmed to set both the duty cycle and the frequency of the modulated signal. Each independent port provides a current of 100 mA. The internal sequencer technology allows the camera to take pictures with different settings for gain and exposure, and to control illumination without a PC. Cameras are available with resolutions ranging from VGA to 5 megapixels, and frame rates up to 90 frames per second.
