USB 3.0 and GigE Vision are among standards helping machine vision. While speakers touted their favorite machine vision communications at NIWeek 2014 with large foam “Number 1” gloves, they admitted that selection depends on a variety of criteria. SessionThe China Machine Vision Union (CMVU) has joined the G3 Standardization Initiative, which promotes machine vision standards globally, as the group’s fifth member. The other members are:

  • AIA-Advancing Vision + Imaging (AIA)
  • European Machine Vision Association (EMVA)
  • Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA)
  • VDMA Machine Vision (VDMA MV)

The G3 Standardization Initiative’s mission is cooperation on global vision standards and expanding the use of vision and imaging technologies throughout the manufacturing industry. Developing a uniform set of standards are designed to cut down on development time, investment costs, and also accelerate time-to-market. The CMVU’s addition as a partner to the G3 will allow the group to promote their initiatives in an economy that has a large industrialized base.

The G3 Standardization Initiative has also published their "Global Machine Vision Interface Standards" brochure. The brochure is designed to provide vision users with a comprehensive reference that describes what digital interface hardware and software standards as well as a comparison between the various standards.
