Waterloo, Ontario, Canada – Endless introductions of new industrial automation communication protocols, coupled with the requirement to support multiple networks present significant challenges to control engineers responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial communication networks and devices. Of special significance are those situations in which an engineer or technician must actually tap the circuit and ‘view or sniff’ the information flow in order to diagnose the problem. Historically, troubleshooting these multi-protocol/topology scenarios could involve up to five pieces of test equipment with corresponding learning curves.
NetDecoder, an industrial protocol, data, and timing analyzer for Ethernet, serial, and fieldbuses now streamlines this process by offering a fully integrated solution to troubleshoot network protocol problems. It simultaneously captures, decodes, filters and displays data, and detects protocol errors-all in real time. Besides providing a common user interface across serial, Ethernet, and fieldbusses, it also decodes protocol information on most leading communication protocols.
Serial protocol decoders currently supported include Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, Allen- Bradley DF1/PCCC, DNP3, and COMLI. Offered fieldbus protocol decoders and associated data-capture modules include Allen-Bradley DH485, Data Highway Plus, DeviceNet, and CAN 2.0A. Currently available Industrial Ethernet protocol decoders include Modbus/TCP, EtherNet/IP (which includes CIP and PCCC), Allen-Bradley CSP, and DNP3 NetDecoder runs on any Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP-compatible PC. In a standard RS-232 configuration using two standard PC serial ports, the product supports serial data rates up to 115.2 Kbit/sec. Interfacing with Ethernet networks is accomplished through the use of a standard Ethernet NIC card. www.mySST.com Woodhead Connectivity
