Rochester, NY — Microwave Data Systems (MDS) recently introduced a new solution that enables backward compatibility and manageability of installed MDS systems. MDS produces industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automation, public safety, telecommunications, and online transactional markets

MDS’ gateNet serves as an Internet protocol (IP) terminal server gateway between an MDS serial radio network and an enterprise network, which brings serial payload data onto the network. The firm says this is the ideal solution for preserving investments in legacy serial devices, while facilitating migration to, or expansion of, an IP enterprise network for data collection.

MDS says gateNet is unique because of its ability to integrate the company’s network-wide diagnostics onto the enterprise network via a gateNet diagnostic proxy server. This allows integration of legacy radio products into the same SNMP network management system as the rest of a user’s wireless or wired/wireless network. In addition, gateNet adds a Web server and Telnet interfaces for diagnostics and control of MDS’ serial radio network.
