InSite is a manufacturing execution system (MES) software package that is said to be the first built from the ground up as a native Microsoft Windows NT application, according to Camstar Systems Inc.
InSite supports modeling and management of manufacturing processes, data collection, manufacturing activity recording, multilevel work-in-process tracking, and tailorable analysis and reporting. Built on standard Microsoft technologies, InSite integrates with other factory systems such as HMI and control. Scalable architecture separates server logic from client logic providing a single point of control.
InSite executes all MES services through Microsoft’s COM/DCOM and ActiveX technologies. All MES services can be called from any source including a graphical user interface, enterprise application (ERP), and factory automation (cell control, HMI, SCADA).
Process engineers use a graphical object model to build and modify various process flows including material usage, quality and test data collection, resource information, work instructions, and process specifications. Resource and lot level intelligence can be viewed through the model. This factory model is a single source of information and control providing a real-time look at manufacturing operations.
