Microelectromechanical (MEM), pneumatic directional-control valve

AFA Controls LLC’s MEM valve uses electrostatic force to direct inert gas flows. It offers clean service by eliminating solenoids, spools, springs, and dynamic internal seals. Electronically controlled, MEM devices provide fast, consistent pneumatic response-time. On board electronics provide a “last command” control feature to maintain a predetermined default position and a backup power source to sustain the position. Model availability encompasses: two-, three-, and five-port; flows to 2.7 scfm (76 l/min); and pressure from vacuum to 100 psig.

Compared to solenoid-operated, pneumatic directional-control valves, the MEM valve :

  • Responds faster—electrical 200

  • Requires no minimum air pressure;

  • Eliminates heat and internal air leakage;

  • Has clean service;

  • Needs no lubrication; and

  • Features modular plug-in design, easing replacement since all models are the same size.
