NMW 2005: Lapp conforming to RoHS, WEEE standards

Chicago, IL— Lapp USA , a member of the worldwide Lapp Group, has revealed that it’s in the process of conforming to the Europe-based RoHS and WEEE standards. The company released this news at National Manufacturing Week 2005 , March 7-10 at McCormick Place.

Lapp reports that it’s familiar with the European Union (EU) directives on RoHS and WEEE, and that it’s already in the process of implementing the standards’ requirements. EU has outlined programs for complying with these two directives.

RoHS and WEEE were developed beginning in February 2003, and incorporated into national law in August 2004. Beginning on July 1, 2006, certain substances will be banned from inclusion in new electrical and electronic equipment. For certain substances, limit values or exceptions apply, and these are specified in EU Guidelines 2002/95/EC for given cases. Specifically, these substances include:

Lead

Mercury

Cadmium

Hexavalent chromium

Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB)

Polybrominated diphenylether (PBDE)

Lapp adds it will comply with RoHS’ statutory requirements, and is in the process of modifying its products. Also, Lapp will prepare a product list for its www.lappusa.com
