Programmable automation controllers (PACs) fill an increasing need for devices that can perform continuous machine or process control while offering data acquisition capabilities, multiple communication options, and integration with enterprise applications and databases. Opto 22 introduces its SNAP PAC family of controllers in two series intended for different applications.

SNAP PAC-S Series controller is a high-performance, standalone unit suitable for distributed control systems and applications with I/O point counts above 128 or complex Ethernet network architectures. SNAP-PAC-S1 model features a 32-bit multitasking processor with floating point unit, 32 MB RAM, 16 MB flash memory, and 8 MB battery-backed RAM. It has two auto-negotiating 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports which, when used with ioProject Professional, can be configured to create dual Ethernet networks (useful for subnetting traffic) or to create a redundant network for critical applications.

SNAP PAC-R Series ‘on-the-I/O-rack’ controller is designed for cell control and smaller point count applications where I/O needs are geographically contained. SNAP-PAC-R1 model delivers a compact, affordable solution in a small, integrated package. Combined with a SNAP-B8M 8-module I/O rack and included ioProject Basic programming and HMI software, it is capable of addressing up to 256 local I/O points for under $1,000.

Both PAC versions are designed for use with Opto 22’s latest release of ioProject, an integrated suite of applications, programming tools, and utilities.
