Partnership helps track tooling, equipment through the plant
A joint marketing agreement between NCR Corp. and Ubisense Ltd. is delivering an asset management and analysis solution for the manufacturing marketplace. The companies will offer Ubisense’s precise real-time location system (RTLS) combined with NCR’s TransitionWorks automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) software. The first deployment of the Ubisense-NCR solution provides real-time asset visibility on 15 production lines for a large automotive parts manufacturer.
The combination of products enables manufacturers to manage assets throughout their facility. Production tooling and material-handling equipment can be tracked throughout a facility, with the system instantaneously recording events and transmitting actionable operational messages based on business rules configured by customers.
At the automotive plant, the system tracks more than 2,500 individual high-value assets on each production line to a precision of one foot, and generates updates and alerts when machines or assets change locations in or outside a facility. NCR TransitionWorks assimilates and manages information from various AIDC devices and makes a real-time view of the manufacturing floor available. It also enables compliance with relevant requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley accounting rules. The solution resolves time challenges and ensures ease of integration with new or existing data-capture devices, allowing users to collect, interpret, and move large amounts of data from multiple sources.
“Ubisense is the leader in precise real-time location systems, and together we are able to deploy a highly effective and robust asset management tool for businesses,” said NCR AIDC Solutions group vice president and general manager Donna A. Wright.
Ubisense CEO Richard Green said, “The NCR TransitionWorks platform and NCR’s market presence are a powerful combination in global manufacturing and retail. Our goal is to team with companies that demonstrate a deep knowledge of specific markets, and we are pleased to be able to work with NCR in delivering real solutions to customers.”
