To enhance its position in the PC-based control market and strengthen its North American presence, PC Soft International recently acquired FactorySoft Inc. (Mansfield, Mass.). Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. A pioneer in the OLE for Proces Control (OPC) movement (over 100 companies use its OPC software development toolkits), FactorySoft also produces software development tools used to build human-machine interface and instrument configuration applications. These tools are the foundation of FactorySoft’s Microsoft Windows NT-based process controller, which will help develop new PC Soft products. “With the addition of FactorySoft, PC Soft becomes the only software company to supply an integrated suite of both PC-based discrete and process control, plus human-machine interface, supervisory control and data acquisition, and Internet connectivity,” says Evyatar Meiron, PC Soft’s ceo. FactorySoft will continue using its name as a PC Soft subsidiary. “PC Soft’s worldwide distribution and sales organization is well positioned for bringing new control and information products to the industrial automation market,” says Dale Calder, FactorySoft’s president.
