To give small to medium human-machine interface (HMI) applications alarming, data logging, trending, and recipes, PLCDirect recently added LookoutDirect, a low-cost, full-featured HMI software package to its PC-based line. LookoutDirect is a 32-bit application powered by Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 and Windows NT. It’s based on National Instruments’ Lookout automation software.

LookoutDirect’s 500-I/O-point capacity can meet the needs of small- to medium-sized applications. PLCDirect adds that LookoutDirect is object-based, has dozens of object classes, each with its own data, functionality, and display characteristics. LookoutDirect’s event-driven architecture allows objects to run independently, so execution speed and response time don’t diminish as the database grows.
