Pepperl+Fuchs recently launched FieldConnex fieldbus segment protectors for applications in hazardous locations. FieldConnex protectors facilitate efficient connection of field devices with diverse explosion protection methods, and feature integrated short-circuit protection for maximum plant availability and production. These segment protectors are DIN-rail-mountable or can be mounted in a cabinet.

FieldConnex protectors can be mounted in Class I, Div. 1/Zone 1 locations for connecting explosion-proof/Eex d field devices. Other models can be located in Class I, Div. 2/Zone 2, and when used with an appropriate fieldbus power supply, they allow the connection of all Div. 2/Zone 2 certified field devices, as well as intrinsically safe and explosion proof/Eex d protected devices. The latter can be located in Div. 1/Zone 1.

These fieldbus distributors branch the trunk lines of Profibus PA or FOUNDATION fieldbus out to 12 spurs. Each spur is individually short-circuit current limited, so that a shortcircuit at any one spur doesn’t negatively influence the communication of the remaining fieldbus segment. Fault conditions are indicated on each spur via LED status indicators.
