Phoenix Contact discussed its “75 Years of Innovation” with more than 60 media representatives from around the world at its global headquarters here on June 17-18. Highlights included tours of two plants, presentations on intelligent networking, innovations in connection and interface technologies, and discussions of the Interbus digital industrial network. “We provide products from components to automation systems in all markets,” says Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Blome, Executive Management, through an interpreter. “We don’t want to buy our way into markets—We shape markets technologically.” Phoenix Contact with turnover of DM 700 million in 1997, received 33% of that from products introduced in the past five years, compared to 10% in 1987, Mr. Blome says. The company will remain privately held “to retain entrepreneurial independency.” U.S. headquarters is Harrisburg, Pa.
