With a new lens design in a IP67 housing, Balluff introduced the first model of its new BOS 50K series sensors . With a 2 m sensing range, this background suppression sensor and its highly-visible red light emitter is simple to set up and adjust. The proximity sensor targets installations where laser sensors may cause safety concerns or perform poorly due to contaminants in the air, company says.

Ideal for extended range applications such as large roll runout, hopper level control, and part counting for wood finishing equipment, the new BOS 50K has excellent gray shift capability at an affordable price, Balluff says. The long sensing range also offers the advantage of being able to install the sensor at a distance from hostile processes. Later in 2009, Balluff will introduce the balance of the BOS 50K family which will include diffuse, retro-reflective and thru-beam models of discrete sensors.
