The global programmable logic controller (PLC) market will probably grow slightly over the next five years, according to a new report from Automation Research Corp. “Growth in the worldwide PLC business will average less than 3% annually for the next several years. In response, suppliers will increasingly target unbundled I/O modules and software for future growth in revenues. Examples include Rockwell’s Flex I/O family, Schneider Automation’s Momentum I/O, and GE Fanuc’s new Versamax I/O, all of which can be used with devices from other suppliers,” says Chantal Polsonetti, ARC’s vp.
