Power supplies: Thin is in! PS5R Slim Line power supplies from Idec are said to provide the power of a traditional devices in half the space. The new 10 W and 15 W models are 22.5-mm wide, the 30 W and 60 W models are 36-mm wide, and the 90 W model is 46-mm wide. The 120 W unit has a width of 50mm; the 240 W device is 80-mm wide. They can be used in tight spaces or to save valuable DIN rail space while still filling necessary power requirements. The PS5R Slim Line series are UL508 listed and approved for Class I Div. 2 hazardous locations. The 10 W, 15 W, 30 W and 60 W models are also NEC Class 2 rated, while the 120 W and 240 W comply with SEMI F47 sag immunity requirements and bear the F47 Approval. Like all Idec switching power supplies, the PS5R Slim Line series has worldwide approvals, spring-up screw terminals, fused inputs, and overload protection. Switch mode power supplies: The ABB CP range of switch mode power supplies offers newest technology in a compact construction with output voltages of 12 V and 24 V; adjustable output voltages (devices > 10 W); and output currents of 0.42 A, 0.83 A, 1.3 A, 2.1 A, 2.5 A, and 4.2 A. Power range is 10 W, 30 W, 60 W, and 100 W. Input options vary widely: 100-240 V ac (90-264 V ac, 120-370 V dc). The have high efficiency, up to 89%, low power dissipation and low heating, and free convection cooling (no forced cooling with ventilators). Small, safe, flexible switch mode power supplies: Phaseo switch mode power supplies from Schneider Electric are completely electronic, and their output voltage is regulated. They feature compact size; integrated overload, short circuit, overvoltage and undervoltage protection; a wide input voltage range for the universal range; diagnostics via LED indicators on the front panel, and remote diagnostics via a relay contact for the universal range. These power supplies deliver a stabilized dc output voltage that is precise to 3%, regardless of the load from an ac line supply, within the ranges of Modular, single phase input 100 to 240 V ac, output 7 W to 60 W; Optimum, single phase input 100 to 240 V ac, output 60 W to 144 W; Universal: Single phase input 100 to 120 V ac or 200-500 V ac, output 72 W to 480 W; Three phase input 380 to 500 V ac, output 480 W to 960 W; and Dedicated, single phase input 100 to 240 V ac, output 10 to 60 W to 240 W. External power supplies meet Energy Star requirements: Ault MW156 from SL Power Electronics is a family of 75 W external switch-mode power supplies for medical applications that comply with Level IV Energy Star requirements. The MW156 is a single output device that is available in four voltages with a power range up to 75 W. Although the medical electronics market is currently exempt from the global energy conservation standards, many medical OEMs are interested in designing devices that meet the newest environmental initiatives. By satisfying Level IV Energy Star requirements, the Ault MW156 Series meets international power supply efficiency standards, and complies with the mandatory California Energy Commission Tier 2 standard. The desktop-style power supply is said to be ideal for a wide range of applications including diagnostic and imaging equipment, monitors of all types, and portable equipment. Universal converters, dc/dc : Dimension CD5 Series from Puls-US offers a complete range of DIN-rail mount 120 W dc/dc converters. Field applications of these units are diverse; generation of a stabilized control voltage in battery powered applications, galvanic isolation to avoid ground loops, mobile applications, and improved 24 V regulation at the end of long wire run. All CD5 converters have input to output isolation and are rated at 120 W with temperature range of–25 to 60 °C. Units can deliver an additional 20% power reserve, and at a width of 32 mm, they save additional space on the DIN rail. Other features include a built-in soft start, electronic inrush current limitation, input polarity protection and a comprehensive approvals package. The CD5.241-S1 has two built-in relay contacts. All models accept universal input from 90-264 V ac. Six models are available that provide single outputs from 5-48 Vdc. The PMK320 series is approved for UL/EN60950-1 safety specifications. New line of DIN rail power supplies offered: Automation Systems Interconnect Inc. offers what is said to be one of the most reliable and complete lines of DIN-rail mount compact power supplies available. The power supplies are “universal auto-ranging,” which means that the same part can be used with 110 V ac or 220 V ac inputs. Additionally, they offer many new features and occupy the least amount of space on a DIN rail compared to alternative designs. The primary switched power supplies (available from 14 to 2,400 W) provide a clean regulated source for dc power and are compliant with UL, CSA, and CE safety and electrical noise requirements. Power supply design features space-saving power IC: MC34700 power supply enables efficient control of four power rails and provides multiple output voltages for microprocessors, memory, and motors. Its IC is a 9 to 18 V quad-output integrated MOSFET device designed to reduce the complexity and streamline the development of power supplies. It is available in a 32-lead 5 x 5 mm QFN package, enabling the ability to generate up to four power rails in a small-footprint design. This capability reduces board space requirements over discrete designs. The wide input voltage range makes the device ideal for applications with a nominal 12 V supply.
