Preassembled UPS simplifies installation, addresses growing data center needs

The Eaton BladeUPS Preassembled System is designed to meet growing data center needs and offers energy-efficient, modular design of the uninterruptible power system.

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today introduced the Eaton BladeUPS Preassembled System. Designed to meet growing data center needs, the Preassembled System offers the same revolutionary BladeUPS solution with a more streamlined shipping and installation processes for data center managers. The system also offers the energy-efficient, modular design of the award-winning uninterruptible power system (UPS).

The BladeUPS Preassembled System is designed for data center managers interested in consolidating stand-alone UPSs to ease UPS management and enhance power capacity planning. Depending upon power requirements, Preassembled Systems can be ordered with two to six BladeUPS units installed to provide the necessary level of power protection.

“The BladeUPS Preassembled System saves our customers money and resources while helping to reduce their environmental footprint,” said Chris Loeffler, product manager, Eaton’s Power Quality Division. “The steps Eaton performs prior to shipment help streamline the installation process and eliminate the need for on-site assembly. Data center managers only need to bring power to the unit and perform a simple start-up procedure.”

Atlantic.Net, a leading colocation, cloud and managed server hosting provider based in Orlando, Fla., is a BladeUPS customer that has experienced the benefits of this UPS. The company sought replacement UPSs for its 400 kVA units to ensure maximum flexibility, scalability and affordability to cope with its growth.

“We were looking to expand services to provide on-demand cloud hosting to our growing client base while maintaining low overhead costs, but we did not want to invest in larger UPS units that wouldn’t be utilized immediately,” said Brett Haines, operations manager, Atlantic.Net. “Eaton’s BladeUPS models have proved to be a very attractive alternative, allowing us to take a building-block approach to meet our power capacity needs as our business grows.”

All Preassembled BladeUPS systems come with UPS modules and batteries installed in a 42U enclosure, complete with communication cards and internal system wiring. Prior to being delivered to the customer on a single, shock-absorbent pallet, complete with an unloading ramp, each unit is tested as a complete system.

The scalable and modular BladeUPS expands power protection from 12 to 60 kilowatt (kW) (N+1) in a single 19-inch rack while reducing energy and cooling costs with its energy-efficient UPS design. BladeUPS Preassembled Systems reduce shipping, handling and installation costs as all UPS modules are already installed in the information technology (IT) enclosure. Eaton customers can save up to seven percent on the UPS with installation and up to 20 percent on shipping costs, when compared to purchasing separate pieces.
