News from the process control field this month features the introduction of several new products, including a high integrity control system with triple redundancy, a quick-change pump head for handling multiple fluids, and an ultra-capacity flow valve. Also in the headlines is the formation by Invensys of a global LNG business and technology center. Details of these developments, including links to additional information, are presented here.
High integrity control system from RTP Corp. uses a TMR (triple modular redundancy) architecture for process control.
RTP2300T HICS (high integrity control system) from RTP Corp . features a TMR (triple modular redundancy) architecture for process control. Designed especially for mission-critical processes and applications, it ensures the highest integrity and availability of user data, using two-out-of-three voting routines to protect the process and eliminate downtime.
Billed as more flexible than traditional TMR systems, the RTP2300T uses high-speed networking technology—including high-speed logic switching and fast Ethernet-based I/O bus—to do away with the limiting hardware required in older systems. Three controllers comprise the system to ensure survivability in a catastrophe. A dual-powered chassis can be added for processor and I/O connections. System also features high-integrity validation; communications are validated using advanced built-in CRC routines on the host and the I/O bus. System follows IEC 61508 standards.
Quick-change pump head from Encynova handles multiple fluids
QuickChange pump head from Encynova manages multiple fluids in Travcyl systems. Pump head component of the Travcyl fluid handling system quickly detaches from the motor/driver and can be replaced with a spare head in seconds. Capability reduces maintenance for systems that handle various fluids and eliminates cross-contamination concerns. According to the manufacturer, these systems go beyond a basic pump solution, providing pumping capability, fluid measurement, and flow control in one compact module.
Globe control valve from Flowserve Corp. is suited for use in many industries, including chemical manufacturing, oil and gas production, and power generation.
Mark 100 globe control valve from Flowserve Corp . delivers high capacity in a valve smaller than conventional globe control valves in sizes from 6 to 16 in. and pressure classes of 150 to 600. Manufacturer notes the valve’s wide, streamlined gallery increases capacity an average of 15% over competing valves. It also uses longer strokes for precise flow even under rigorous demands. Available with a full range of noise and cavitation reduction severe service trims, the valves can be used for a wide variety of applications, including chemical manufacturing, oil and gas production, and power generation.
In other news, Invensys has formed a Global LNG Business and Technology Centre . Chartered to work hand-in-hand with end-users and global engineering companies to deliver a full spectrum of Invensys’ automation and information solutions across the LNG value chain, the center will be headquartered in Singapore. It will also leverage a network of satellite centers located in Montreal, Houston, and other locations. Solutions provided are designed to improve reliability, ensure safe operation, maximize asset utilization and performance, minimize risk, and reduce costs in new and existing liquefaction plants, LNG carriers, and regasification terminals.
“Invensys has already made a significant technical contribution to the LNG industry,” said Mike Caliel, president of Invensys Process Systems. “Our SimSci design tools, Foxboro control systems, and Triconex safety systems are well-proven in global LNG facilities. Foxboro is a leader in shipboard custody transfer systems. And we’ve earned a reputation for excellence in large-scale LNG project management. The [center] will build upon this proven domain expertise, plus the company’s broad technology and service portfolio, to develop and implement new and innovative automation and information solutions designed to help the global LNG industry meet its full potential for growth and profitability.”
