November 19, 2011

With the Motion AOI Solution from Mitsubishi Electric Automation Inc., customers can easily control Mitsubishi servo equipment over an EtherNet/IP network. This solution comes complete with Add-On-Instructions (AOIs) to use within Rockwell Automation’s RSLogix 5000 programming environment along with a preconfigured program for the Mitsubishi controller. The instructions mimic Rockwell’s motion instructions and provide additional functionality. A key component in this setup is a gateway device that converts EtherNet/IP messages to MC protocol for the Mitsubishi motion controller to read. Mitsubishi Electric’s MR-J3 Series servo amplifiers and motors are very robust and extremely easy to tune. This provides incentive for packaging customers and other end users to use the solution on machinery that requires precision positioning and long-lasting equipment.

The Motion AOI Solution is ideal for the following applications:

  • New and existing equipment with 4 servo axes or less
  • Implementations with Rockwell’s ControlLogix or CompactLogix PACs
  • Replacing Kinetix or Ultra drives from Rockwell on select machines
