Quality Congress features software track

The American Society for Quality (ASQ) will feature a software track at its 58th Annual Quality Congress (AQC), May 24-26, 2004, in Toronto, ON, Canada, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The track contains sessions that specifically address quality in the software industry:

“Changes to ISO 9000-3” will discuss: identifying related standards that are references and how they are interrelated; software-specific vs. generic observations; guidance on software-related topics (COTS [commercial off-the-shelf] software, “calibration,” viruses); and standard application case examples.

“Data Quality in the Biomedical Field” will cover development of metrics and procedures to evaluate data quality throughout the biopharmaceutical-development process which could enable regulatory officials to evaluate the confidence level of decisions made based on the data.

“Perfect Software” will look at the role software plays in our daily lives—not in the obvious examples (word processors, tax programs), but in areas we never think of: alarm clocks, cars, traffic lights, etc.

“Assessing the Effectiveness of Software Testing” will provide practical techniques (boundary analysis, structured basis testing, data flow analysis, equivalence classes) to improve effectiveness of software validation activities for medical device software.

“Surviving the Quagmire of Process Models, Integrated Models, and Standards” will describe the drivers behind different models and standards, why they are different, two strategies for integrating these diverse models and standards from a model/standard developer’s perspective, and strategies that model implementers may use.

More than 100 sessions will be featured at the conference, which typically draws nearly 2,500 quality professionals and practitioners. Topic-specific quality tracks include: Automotive, Canada Awards for Excellence, Green (environment), Healthcare, Human Development and Leadership, International/European, Participation and Improvement, Quality Auditing, Quality Management, Software, and Statistics.
