Quatech introduces embedded, USB serial adapters

Quatech reports that its new, embedded, USB serial adapters connect multiple serial peripherals via one USB port. This allows users to easily incorporate multiple serial interface devices, such as keypads, displays, card readers and printers, into custom enclosures that lack native serial support, and do it without changing software written for serial port communications, the company says.

“We developed this line in response to strong customer demand for a robust, cost-efficient way to integrate multiple serial peripherals into kiosks and other POS enclosures,” says Steve Runkel, Quatech’s president and CEO. QSU-100-EMB provides four independent RS-232 serial ports that function like a computer’s native COM ports. QSU-200/300-EMB is an equivalent adapter for RS-422/485 peripherals. ESU-100-EMB and ESU-200/300-EMB provide eight ports for RS-232 or RS-422/485 devices, respectively. All are USB port-powered, provide data rates up to 230.4 kpbs, and are compatible with Microsoft Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP, as well as Linux.

In addition, these small-footprint boards have built-in surge suppression on the serial ports, which Quatech says is necessary for maximum reliability and robustness. Mounting holes allow easy installation into cabinets and kiosks. A USB cable is also included for data transfers and to power the boards from the USB bus.
