Real-time means different things, depending on the application. In the November 2004 North American print edition, there will be a “Technology Update” on the topic. Here’s some related information from Dalsa , Bosch Rexroth , Danaher Motion’s Motion Engineering , and Venture Development Corp .

12k line-scan camera, most powerful to date : Dalsa Corp . announced availability of Piranha2-12k, said to be the world’s first 12k Line Scan Camera, as of the Oct. 19 announcement. With 12,288 pixels, 8 taps, 24 kHz line rate, and data rate of 320 MHz, Dalsa’s new camera offers higher resolution and higher throughput than any other line scan camera. The camera provides programmability and versatility including flat field correction, programmable line rate, exposure time, gain, and diagnostics through its industry-standard Camera Link interface.

Multi-tasking: IndraMotion MTX is a flexible real-time CNC from the Bosch Rexroth Corp . Electric Drives and Controls division: Read more from Control Engineering .

Motion Engineering released the ZMP-PCI Motion Controller.

64-bit: Motion Engineering (Danaher Motion Group) released the ZMP-SynqNet-PCI motion controller, with dedicated servo update rates, the highest-performance member to date of the Syn-qNet family. It has a 64-bit ZMP controller with a 466 MHz Motorola PowerPC processor, fast I/O latching capabilities, and the host for the controller can be an RTOS (real-time operating system) like Wind River VxWorks, some flavors of real-time Linux, or real-time extension for Microsoft Windows like Venturcom. SynqNet motion control networks provide a 100 Mbps synchronous real-time connection between motion controllers and servo/stepper drives, custom network devices, and I/O modules. There’s more interest, and more competition, in real time, according to Venture Development Corp . See the recent item from Control Engineering , “

Embedded Linux puts pressure on Windows CE, VxWorks

.” Microsoft offers Windows CE 5.0 and Windows XP Embedded. Windows CE .NET 5.0 is said to offer an average interrupt response time of 50 ECN , one of Control Engineering ’s sister publications, click here .
