Record attendance, new technologies mark IMTS ’98

With attendance breaking 121,000 for the biennial eight-day event, IMTS ’98 was a showcase for new technologies. Heidenhain Corp. (Schaumburg, Ill.) unveiled a line of programmable, multiturn, absolute encoders with single turn resolution that can be reduced from 8,192 to any whole number. Thomson Industries Inc. (Port Washington, N.Y.) introduced its Omnidrive digital servo drives that simplify integration by offering multiple command source configurations. Simodrive 611U from Siemens Energy & Automation (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) provides both digital and analog servo control in one unit. Olflex Wire & Cable Inc. (Fairfield, N.J.) showed its VFD-CT flame-resistant cable for variable frequency drive applications.
