Lake In The Hills, IL— Dr. Kenneth Ryan has been named as president of SERCOS N.A. , which is the North American trade association for the SERCOS interface (Serial Realtime COmmunications System) for motion control. Dr. Ryan is manufacturing automation research and education director at The Center for Automation and Motion Control (CAMC) at Alexandria Technical College (Alexandria, MN). He succeeds George Kaufman, formerly president of Automation Intelligence, and now at AutomationDirect.
CAMC has been teaching automation technicians and supporting the packaging machine manufacturing sector for more than 15 years. Dr Ryan’s areas of concentration include PLC programming utilizing IEC 61131-3 standards; motion control programming, stressing digital interface standards such as SERCOS; and leveraging the Internet for remote monitoring and management of advanced automation technology. He is presently chairman of PackLearn, the educational division of the OMAC Packaging Working Group. PackLearn promotes and provides education about open modular architectural guidelines and their application in advanced packaging automation.
“I am proud to be associated with SERCOS N.A. and OMAC, two of the many organizations working together to promote the use of open standards in packaging automation,” says Ryan. “I find real advantages in training technicians to accepted open technology standards as it enhances the scalability and durability of their knowledge at all stages. I’m excited about the technological advances represented by the new SERCOS-III and look forward to seeing these advances translated into productivity enhancements for the many industry sectors that rely on fast, accurate coordination of multi-axis motion.”
