Innovations in safety relays enable use of Siemens Modular Safety Systems (MSS) to improve system flexibility, functionality, and diagnostics, while reducing overall costs. With the new Sirius 3RK3 modular safety system, Siemens offers a safety solution that combines the functionality of a simple safety relay and a fail-safe programmable logic controller (PLC). The 3RK3 safety system can be used in all market and applications where several safety functions have to be evaluated and cost is prohibitive to wire together several switching devices. MSS is certified for use in safety applications up to Cat 4, SIL3, and PLe. Safety solutions based on individual or multiple safety relays can limit functionality and drive up costs. The Modular Safety System can handle complex safety applications using simple wiring, replacing laborious wiring of individual functions by fast and easy interconnection of parameterizable blocks, while achieving required safety and reliability. MSS ES also simplifies commissioning with advanced monitoring functions. In addition, the Modular Safety System can be expanded with safety input and output modules to handle small- or mid-size applications. Add a fieldbus interface to quickly transfer safety diagnostics to PLCs and HMIs.
