Safety relay monitors safety of circuits, helps OEMs
The Eaton ESR5 safety relay expands diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation’s safety solutions for North American customers. The ESR5 is engineered to monitor safety circuits and will be a key enhancement to the safety of equipment. Already available in Europe, the device is designed specifically for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Richard Harwell, advanced solutions manager at Eaton. “The ESR5 safety relay is engineered to offer a high degree of reliability and safety for plant machinery." He noted that “Eaton provides customers with a range of safety solutions aimed at prevention, protection and preparation.”
The relay monitors the signals from safety devices and switches off quickly in an emergency. With redundant features, it is engineered for the construction of safety applications. The ESR5 is compatible with many safety devices, including emergency stops, rope pulls, two-hand control stations and others. In the event of a fault or activation of the safety device, the enable paths are switched off. The ESR5 detects faults that occur in the control circuit, including ground fault, cross connection fault or wire breakage. It is available in single- and dual-channel versions.
Rated for global applications, the ESR5 safety relay is designed in accordance with European standard (EN) 954-1, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 13849-1, InternationalElectrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62061 and 61508. The ESR5 also meets Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 508, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Conformité Européenne (CE) standards and certifications. It is rated by TÜVRheinland for use in safety applications.
Eaton is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2011.
