Second-generation cybersecurity

Mansfield, MA —Industrial Defender V2.0 security appliance suite from Verano Inc . now has enhanced security agents, customizable reporting and analysis, and increased scalability intended specifically for power transmission and distribution, water distribution and treatment, gas and liquid pipelines, power generation companies, and mass transit systems.

Verano’s cybersecurity program, first introduced in 2003, protects a control environment against such cyber attacks as viruses, worms, Trojans, hackers, application exploits, rogue systems, resource starvation, and unauthorized use. Software uses a layered approach that consists of security monitoring of multi-vendor control system metrics and perimeter protection as well as network monitoring to detect and prevent internal and external threats. Management of and visibility into the entire control environment is said to enable increased efficiency of the security software.

V2.0 reportedly provides all necessary layers of cybersecurity monitoring, protection, and reporting in one integrated solution. Growing concern for cybersecurity, NERC (North American Electric Reliability Council) standards, and the recently signed energy bill, says the manufacturer, are driving companies responsible for critical infrastructure to implement greater levels of network security at the real-time control level.
