Rosemount Analytical Model 398 TUpH pH/ORP sensor from Emerson Process Management is intended for harsh applications, such as pulp and paper, chemical, and plastics manufacturing. Featuring chemical resistance and mechanical durability, the unit is designed to protect the reference element from contamination by ions, such as sulfides, cyanide, mercury, and ammonia, which would cause the pH signal to drift during measurement.
Device reportedly uses technology that ensures long life in processes that typically coat, foul, and poison most other electrodes. The sensor’s helical reference pathway is made of PEEK (PolyEtherEtherKetone) plastic for chemical resistance to solvent attack. Contaminants must traverse a long helical pathway become coming into contact with the internal reference electrode.
Features include AccuGlass pH electrode that reportedly resists cracking and performs well in dirty, high-solids environments. Silcore triple-seal contaminant barrier further protects the integrity of the pH measurement. Large surface area reference junction is said to resist plugging, sending a steady pH signal in dirty environments to ensure minimal maintenance requirements and long life.
