San Jose, Calif. – Baumer Electric showed three new product families at the Sensors Expo, a family of miniature ultrasonic sensors, a family of miniature inductive sensors, and a 36-bit multi-turn optical rotary encoder.

The miniature ultrasonic sensors are available in a tubular enclosure measuring M12x1x70 mm or in rectangular housings measuring 15x20x49 mm. The switching point can be remotely adjusted using an external teach-in capability. The sonic beam angle of 6° enables sensing through narrow openings. Reaction time is just 10 msec. All are rated IP 67.

Inductive sensor family includes Series 03, 04, 05, 06, and 08. 03 series cylindrical 3 mm sensors incorporate electronics into the head enabling a length of just 16 mm. Series 04 and 05 sensors are up to 20 percent shorter than their predecessors. Short-body 4 mm sensors measure 36 mm and feature an M8 x 1 connector. Rectangular sensors measure 4 x 20 mm.

Dignalizer features 36 bit resolution in a multi-turn encoder enabling 262,144 pulses per revolution and over 262,144 revolutions tracking over 68 billion pulses with unique binary codes. The encoder measures 58 mm dia. and 55 mm depth, weighing in at 370 g. Up to 6,000 rpm is supported. It supports SSI, CANopen, DeviceNet, and Profibus, as well as RS-485. Both cable and radial connector configurations are available, with 12 mm hollowshaft and various industry standard shaft sizes available.
