Atlanta, GA; Rochester Hills, MI— To reportedly pave the way toward lean manufacturing and turnkey electronic manufacturing services, Siemens Energy & Automation (E&A) Inc. reports that its has sold its electronic manufacturing center (EMC) business in Johnson City, TN, and South Lebanon, OH, to Epic Technologies LLC . Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The Johnson City facility, which Siemens purchased in 1991 from Texas Instruments, employs approximately 400 people. The South Lebanon operation was purchased from Eaton Corp. in 2000, and employs approximately 100 employees. All staff at the two sites transferred their employment to Epic on Feb. 1, 2005, under existing management.
Siemens previously announced plans to spin-off these operations. The two facilities were used by Siemens to manufacture custom electronic circuit boards and other electronic devices. Epic reportedly will continue contract manufacturing at the facilities, and will assume responsibility for Siemens’ current orders. The sale of EMC will not affect Siemens’ remaining operations in North Johnson City, TN, or its Motion Control Systems activities in the South Lebanon facility.
‘We set out to find a strategic buyer who could not only grow the electronics contract manufacturing business, but also become a strategic partner to Siemens, . We found both these qualities in Epic Technologies. We’re working closely together with Epic to ensure a seamless transition for employees, customers and suppliers.’ John Sammut, Epic’s president and CEO, adds that, ‘Epic Technologies is pleased with the acquisition of the electronics manufacturing capabilities in both Johnson City and South Lebanon, where employees have proven their ability to grow this business over the past few years. We are highly committed to maintaining the level of quality and customer service that EMC established under the Siemens brand, and look forward to bringing a high level of lean manufacturing efficiency and EMS industry expertise to these operations.’
