Software integrates barcodes, RFID for wireless data collection
System integration of barcodes and radio frequency identification (RFID) for automated data capture (ADC) in production, warehouse and field service locations can help companies reduce asset management costs, improve productivity, and create a real-time view of resources. Avnet Technology Solutions recently introduced wireless data capture products and services for barcode and RFID technologies integrating Data Systems International’s (DSI) dcLink software. Avnet and DSI will provide configuration and integration support to assist their business partners in developing integrated wireless ADC solutions.
The integrated offering includes DSI dcLink software, industry-standard x86 servers, wireless data capture hardware, and supporting infrastructure. Available to Avnet’s partners in the United States and Canada, the package includes software maintenance, hardware warranties, training, implementation, and support.
Avnet says it expect the offering will help leverage RFID and real-time tracking of inventory, assets, and time, “at an affordable, accelerated pace,” says Michael Douglass, vice president, enterprise mobility solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions. “Our partners can provide these innovative new technologies without having to invest the traditional time and resources in solution development and vendor management. Avnet and DSI supply the configuration, integration, marketing and sales support services required for implementing these sophisticated solutions.” Matt McGraw, senior vice president, sales and marketing at DSI expects “Avnet’s technical expertise, supplier relationships and sales resources will help us accelerate our growth.”
The introductory bundle from Avnet includes dcLink software licenses for up to 10 wireless devices, plus services such as maintenance, warranties, and training, the companies say. DSI’s software will be pre-configured onto IBM, HP, and other industry-standard servers, and fully integrated with wireless infrastructure products. In addition, dcLink software, which integrates with database and enterprise resource applications, is available separately.
DSI says its dcLink software has more than 40,000 users at over 1,800 client installations in 31 countries. Avnet Technology Solutions, an operating group of Avnet Inc. and a distributor focused on enterprise computer products and embedded subsystems, representing more than $4 billion in annual revenue, with locations in more than 30 countries.
