Rosemont, IL— Motion Engineering Inc. (MEI) reports that it recently launched its MechaWare software tool for creating custom control algorithms for use with all SynqNet motion controllers. The company is exhibiting its products this week at SPS Electric Automation America 2005 , May 23-26, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center near Chicago.

MechaWare is a plug-in library for the Matlab/Simulink environment that enables complex motion control development by machine builders. MechaWare is designed to literally hand over the control building blocks to the end-user, freeing them from proprietary or limited control capability. OEMs can integrate custom control models into their machine design with a high degree of simulation capability and fast experimentation without factory limitations.

Programmers and non-programmers alike can use the Matlab/Simulink workspace to quickly drag, drop, and interrelate function blocks to develop the ideal motion control loop for their application. MechaWare works with any SynqNet XMP or ZMP type controller for up to 32 axes of control. Once a model is‘built’ in the workspace, compatible control code is automatically generated and downloaded to a controller for immediate simulation techniques or real-world testing. Models developed on one platform can then be easily modified and extended over an entire machine product family via the MechaWare API that works with the Motion Programming Interface (MPI) from MEI. MechaWare works with Matlab version 12.1 and higher running on Windows NT, XP, or 2000, and only requires a SynqNet controller and associated programming libraries for implementation.

MechaWare features full custom implementation with built-in support for state observers, state feedback, coordinate transformations, 64-bit double precision calculations with ZMP controllers, gain switching, and many others. MechaWare enables sophisticated vibration control techniques, support for complex Multi-in, Multi-out (MIMO) plant models, and allows the user to easily define gantry control topologies.
