Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Germany— As of mid-July 2004, the electric automation exhibition and conference, SPS/IPC/Drives , had established several new “high-water marks” relative to its upcoming run on Nov. 23-25. Exhibit space bookings reached 64,500 sq. meters (more than 694,000 sq. ft), making the event the largest in its history. Also, SPS/IPC/Drives 2004 expects to draw 1,000 exhibitors, spreading to seven halls at Nuremberg’s Exhibition Center—both first time marks for this show.

To help visitors more efficiently navigate the expanded show areas, specific display topics have been assigned to the exhibition halls, which show organizers list as:

  • Electric drives and motion control technologies in Halls 1 and 4;

  • Hardware and peripheral equipment in

  • Control technology and sensors in

  • Software, control technology and sensors in

  • Control and interface technologies in Hall 9.

Halls in the exhibition center are connected for convenient visitor access and minimal walking distances. An extensive conference will complement the exhibits.

Two key themes will resonate at SPS/IPC/Drives 2004. Ethernet in Automation will bring together applications, solutions, and products on the exhibition floor—as well as be a highlight topic in the conference program. Intelligent Vision Sensors will focus on the widening use and integration of industrial image processing in automation.

By the way, this largely European event is heading for closer ties with the U.S. in the near future. An inaugural “daughter show,” SPS Electric Automation America, has been announced for May 24-26, 2005, in Rosemont, IL (a suburb of Chicago).
