Profinet IRT/Ertec Switch is the next phase of Profinet for factory automation. It involves enhanced isosynchronous real-time (IRT) technology, promising to enable much larger networks and number of nodes. Profinet IRT/Ertec Switch relies on a new ASIC for which Siemens is the main supplier. Traffic-monitoring feature shows the effects of data transfer load changes on the network. Capability to handle 70 motion axes in 500additional Profinet capabilities. Attributes include: support by copper and fiber-optic cables; half/full duplex; autonegotiation; broadcast filter; IEEE 802.1 p traffic-management; IEEE 802.1 q VLAN tagging and identification; and IEEE 1588.
