Line of liquid level switches from Madison Co . comes in PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) construction for high-purity applications, such as medical/pharmaceutical products and food or beverage dispensers. PTFE switches are also suitable for electronic component manufacturing, sterilization systems, and applications where strict biosafety standards must be met.

Chemically inert PTFE lets a switch withstand aggressive solvents, such as alcohols, esters, and ketones as well as other corrosive acids and bases, oils, steam, and most chemicals. Its smooth surface resists bacteria formation, rejects material build-up, and does not absorb liquids. PTFE switches are also said to withstand high operating temperatures of up to 260 °C and caustic agents.

Float comes in standard PTFE, or with an advanced, chemically modified PTFE for better thermal and mechanical characteristics. Modified PTFE allows some designs to operate without the spring assist found in many heavier float designs, the company says.
