San Diego, Calif. – Synergy Microsystems Inc. announced May 8 its release of two new PMC modules offering advanced IEEE 1394 and Ultra160 SCSI communication.

The PFIR module offers the choice of dual front or dual rear IEEE 1394 ports. The PSC2 offers the choice of one or two Ultra160 SCSI buses with the option of simultaneous front and rear routing. The card supports all speeds of SCSI up to 160 MBps, providing connection to new and legacy SCSI peripherals. Both modules support Linux now with VxWorks support available soon. Pricing starts at $975 for the PFIR, $1,195 for the PSC2.

The PSC2’s high speed SCSI allows connection to today’s fastest hard drives, while the PFIR’s 400Mb/s interface allows hot-pluggable connection to economical, high capacity hard drives. The PFIR also allows connection to video cameras, which are finding increasing use in embedded real time applications. Both cards are optimized for use with Synergy single board computers.

The new modules are available in both forced air and conduction cooled versions. Both cards are designed to mate to the conduction cooling frame of Synergy’s Rhino 10 PowerPC VME single board computer, allowing the modules to be used at extreme temperatures.

Synergy Microsystems Inc. specializes in designing and manufacturing multiprocessor single board computers and I/O cards for VME and CompactPCI systems to meet the needs of demanding real-time applications. In business since 1985, the corporation is privately held, with headquarters in San Diego and R&D facilities in both San Diego and Tucson, Ariz.
