The largest computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software vendors for 2005 and and a projection of 2006 leaders are in Version 15 of the NC Software Market Assessment Report, produced by CIMdata Inc . For 2005, CIMdata estimates that UGS was the market leader on the basis of revenue received ($123 million of CAM-related software and services revenues), resulting in a 14.6% market share.

According to CIMdata chairman Alan Christman, “UGS has been the largest CAM supplier on the basis of revenue received for the past three years, and they are projected to maintain that position in 2006.”

CIMdata also ranks vendors on the basis of end-user payments, as a measure of overall market presence. This ranking includes revenues received by resellers as well as vendor revenue received. On this basis, IBM/Dassault is the largest vendor with an estimated $189 million in CAM related software revenues and a 14.1% market share. Following IBM/Dassault are UGS, PTC, Delcam, Hitachi Zosen Systems, Planit Holdings, CNC Software, Missler Software, Tebis, and Open Mind Technologies.

The overall strengths of Unigraphics NX CAM, says Christman, include market presence, industry reputation in CAM, integration from design through manufacturing, breadth and depth of the products, a knowledge-based orientation, and industry leadership provided in mold base design, progressive die design, high-speed machining, and 5-axis machining.

“The integration under Teamcenter Manufacturing for information management and the inclusion of some of Tecnomatix digital manufacturing capabilities strengthens the UGS CAM position,” he adds.

The “NC Software Market Assessment Report” is 200+ pages and contains 94 charts.
