VenturCom Inc. announced Sept. 21 its acquisition of Phar Lap Software Inc. (also Cambridge, Mass.), developer of Embedded ToolSuite (ETS), consisting of Embedded Studio Express, a Visual Studio Add-In, and a 32-bit x86-based real-time operating system based on Microsoft’s Win32 API. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The acquisition allows VenturCom to provide a Microsoft-oriented integrated development environment to customers previously only served by traditional real-time operating systems. Phar Lap’s customers can now migrate their Win32-based dedicated systems to Windows CE, Windows NT Embedded, and Windows 2000, as features and requirements expand, with seamless portability across each operating system. VenturCom will continue to support all Phar Lap customers.
