Pittsburgh, Pa.- Emerson Process Management recently announced that its Westinghouse Process Control division was selected by Enelpower to provide PlantWeb digital plant architecture to the new Enel Produzione Piettrafitta Nuova plant in Italy’s Umbria region.

Westinghouse’s $1.5-million solution will include the DeltaV digital automation system with AMS predictive maintenance software and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices, and will integrate Profibus-DP technologies as well. This innovative configuration using FOUNDATION fieldbus and Profibus-DP will enable plant operators to gather critical data from field devices from both the plant’s analog and digital I/O points.

Enelpower reports that it picked PlantWeb architecture and DeltaV system for this ability to secure added operating and maintenance information via intelligent field devices. Italy’s power market is in the process of being liberalized, and Enelpower was seeking a way to simplify engineering and optimize plant management, while still increasing availability with advanced diagnostics and predictive maintenance.

In addition, DeltaV will monitor other systems at Pietrafitta Nuova, such as gas and steam turbine controls. PlantWeb’s integrated capabilities will enable control room operators to manage all functions of the 390-MW, combined-cycle power plant from one location.
