Windows CE bows in at ISA Expo/98

No doubt recognizing Windows CE’s integration abilities and real-time application potential, numerous exhibitors showed products using Microsoft ‘s (Redmond, Wa.) platform at ISA Expo/98.

Intellution (Norwood, Mass.) unveiled Fix Dynamics for Windows CE, a visualization component and control solution based on Microsoft Windows CE with a seamless one-step database configuration. Based on Paradym-31 for Microsoft Windows NT, FIX Dynamics for Windows CE is a control and visualization package featuring the small footprint possible with the embedded operating system. The goal of the control component is a scalable product capable of running under Windows NT, NT with real-time extensions, or Windows CE running on either Intel, Hitachi, or Mips chips. Visualization is accomplished with SoftPanel, an electronic operator interface with Windows CE embedded.Intellution will begin its early adopters program in 1Q99. The company also announced the formation of its Windows CE Automation Technology Center. Opening in January 1999, the center will provide a technology-based program to introduce OEM developers and end users to the capabilities and opportunities of using Windows CE. Iconics ‘ (Foxborough, Mass.) Pocket GraphWorx CE uses Win CE to take human-machine interface to a new level by bringing real-time critical graphical performance data to remote operators. Pocket GraphWorx CE will be offered to OEMs as a tool for use with embedded controllers in industrial vision applications. Based on Win32 API, VenturCom ‘s (Cambridge, Mass.) RTX 4.2 API offers a familiar interface for creating real-time applications for devices from enterprise servers running Windows NT to soft programmable logic controllers running Windows CE. Applications can be written on NT and deployed on either NT or CE. Conversely, applications that outgrow resource limits on CE can be moved to NT. RTX allows engineers to develop real-time embedded applications on Intel’s Embedded Processor Module (EPM) board.
