Facility tours, equipment demonstrations, and celebrations marked the May 10 grand opening of Yaskawa Electric America Inc.’s (YEA) new North American headquarters. Located 30 miles north of Chicago, the 112,500-ft2 complex will conduct all of YEA’s North American business operations, including Motoman robotic systems. The site comprises training facilities, product development labs, product showrooms, and offices employing the latest in communications (e.g., high-speed Ethernet), backup power supplies, and video conferencing. Manufacturing and distribution functions are part of future plans. The facility intends to increase YEA’s global customer support base and improve operating efficiency. “This new complex will enhance Yaskawa’s ability to support global business and product strategies, particularly those relating to North America, and continue YEA’s rapid growth in the Western Hemisphere,” says Shinichi Hashimoto, president and ceo of YEA’s parent company, Yaskawa Electric Corp. of Japan.
