Yokogawa process control advances
Mr. Masatoshi Nakahara, senior vice president, head of industrial automation platform business HQ, and Chet Mroz, president and CEO, Yokogawa Corporation of America, introduced Yokogawa’s new Centum VP system offering and explained how it will advance the company’s vision for Yokogawa’s VigilantPlant as the ideal facility for industrial automation.
Yokogawa’s new Centum VP system offering was introduced at a 2014 ARC Forum press conference. Mr. Masatoshi Nakahara, senior vice president, head of industrial automation platform business HQ, and Chet Mroz, president and CEO, Yokogawa Corporation of America, explained how it will advance the company’s vision for Yokogawa’s VigilantPlant as the ideal facility for industrial automation. Here are some notes from the new product press conference:
- Centum VP had major updates in 2008 and 2011.
- VP now includes use of ISA100 wireless communications with a multi-protocol wireless adaptor.
- Mirror Plant provides a proactive approach to plant safety, predicting plant behavior based on real-time data.
- Customer challenges are many, and Centum VP has new features to help. These are Hyper-intuitive Operation (gives four-dimensional awareness of plant operations), Intelligent Plant Conductor (makes the system an expert operator), Total Automation Management (ends engineering surprises and eases startup), and Sustainable Plant (provides maximum performance of 30-year-old plants).
- This fall, the new software will help reduce delays, assuring project start on schedule.
- N-IO is smart, small, and progressive and offers compatibility with existing input/output modules. It has high reliability and is located in the field (without marshalling).
- ISA100 wireless expands measurement capabilities. Yokogawa PID function block has packet-loss compensation.
Nobuaki Konishi, vice president of control systems, noted that Yokogawa will enter its 100th year in 2015. More than 60% of the company’s business is outside of Japan. Industrial automation and controls are 85% of its total business. Centum began in 1975.
