Yokogawa Corp. will provide complete upstream measurement and control facilities for the Sakhalin II crude oil and natural gas development project under contracts awarded recently. The operation is located in the Sakhalin region of the Russian Far East. The company earlier won contracts to provide the project’s downstream measurement and control facilities.
The $10 billion development effort will enable year-round extraction of crude oil and natural gas in northern Sakhalin and its transport through pipelines to southern Sakhalin. There, the crude oil will be shipped to utility customers from a crude oil export facility and the gas converted to liquefied natural gas (LNG). The conversion will occur at an LNG production facility that will be among the largest of its kind in the world. Its two liquefaction trains will have a combined annual production capability of 9.6 million tons; it will also be the first facility of its kind to implement the latest FOUNDATION Fieldbus technology. The plant is scheduled to begin operating in 2007.
Says Will de Groot, management director of Yokogawa System Center Europe: “We have made optimum use of the various integrated technology platforms for the Sakhalin project, such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Centum CS300 distributed control system, ProSafe PLC safety system, Fast/Tools SCADA package, and Stardom network-based control system. This has been coupled with our capability to execute the project from production locations in Japan, Singapore, The Netherlands, and Malaysia.”
